An Uber driver faces aggravated assault charges after police say he got into an argument with passengers, then shot at them when they changed to another driver's car.

According to police, 53-year-old Ahmad Ahmad picked up two passengers from a downtown New Orleans bar shortly after midnight early Sunday morning, with instructions to take them to Kenner.

"However, Ahmad reportedly began driving them across the Mississippi River Bridge toward the Westbank," said police. "When the victims informed him he was going in the wrong direction-an argument began."

Police say at some point, Ahmad stopped the car and police were called. While waiting, one of the passengers ordered another Uber driver.

"When the driver arrived, the victims entered the car," the statement continues. "However, Ahmad reportedly opened the passenger side door and removed the car’s key from the ignition.  As a result, Ahmad and one of the victims got into a physical altercation.  Then, Ahmad went back to his car, got a gun, and starting shooting at the victims. The victims ran and Ahmad drove away from the scene."

Police say Ahmad returned to the scene a short time later and was arrested.
