Two murders in New Orleans to start the holiday weekend

New Orleans Police are investigating the second murder of the day in the city.

This one occurred early Saturday afternoon in the 2200 block of North Galvez Street.

Initial reports from the NOPD show one male victim suffered from a gunshot wound at that location. 

The victim was pronounced dead on scene by EMS. 

Police are seeking a person of interest in the case, known around the neighborhood as "Jeezy."

Police say he may have valuable information about the crime.

The first murder of the day in New Orleans claimed the life of an adult male just after midnight in the Fifth District.

Officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the 2400 block of A P Tureaud Avenue. They arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the body. He was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for these incidents, as well as motives.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victims' names and official cause of death, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
