Two men are dead after separate killings less than nine hours apart today in Marrero.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the first was around 4:00am.

"Deputies... patrolling the area of Ames Blvd. and Field St. in Marrero... observed a disturbance.  Responding to the area, the deputy discovered an unidentified black male lying on the ground near the intersection.   The victim had been shot.  He was pronounced dead on the scene."

Just before 1:00pm today another man was shot dead in Marrero.

"The victim, a 22-year-old male from Marrero, was brought to a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital," the sheriff's office said in a release.

It happened in the 2800 block of Mt. Kennedy Drive.

Lopinto says while the murders happened "in close proximity," it is too early to say if they are connected.
