Two dead in New Orleans Christmas violence

Two people are dead in multiple shootings across New Orleans, police say.

New Orleans Police say a shooting Algiers left one victim dead early Christmas evening. It happened shortly before 5:30 near General Myers Ave. and Casmire Street in Algiers. Police say a woman was also shot at the scene.

It was the latest in a series of violent incidents in New Orleans.

Around 8:45 a.m., police say a man was shot and killed in Central City, in the 2500 block of Clara Street.

There were also a pair of non-fatal shootings reported. The first happened shortly before 7:30 in the 1500 block of Pleasure Street on the edge of the St. Bernard neighborhood. Police say a man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, and said he was shot buy a man he was trying to buy marijuana from.

Police say early in the afternoon, shortly before 12:30 p.m., a man was grazed by gunfire in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
