New Orleans Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred Sunday morning in the 3400 block of New Orleans Street.

Police say two cousins, a 23-year-old female and a 7-year-old male, were wounded.

According to a police report, the victims were asleep in their house when they heard a loud noise. Their security camera showed an unknown male subject on their front porch. He then began shooting into the house, and both victims sustained gunshot wounds. The 7-year-old was hit in the stomach. The female was shot in the foot.

The perpetrator fled the location in an unknown direction, but the NOPD later confirmed they had a suspect in custody..

Both of the victims were transported to a local hospital by EMS. The two victims are both in stable condition.

An earlier report the boy and his mother were the victims was incorrect.
