Threats at Lusher Charter School lead to arrest

After school officials issued a shelter in place order at Lusher Charter School in New Orleans Tuesday, amid threats of violence on social media, a child is under arrest.

"NOPD has arrested a juvenile on a terrorizing charge in connection with alleged threats made over social media," Public Information Officer Andy Cunningham said in an email. "The juvenile, a student at Lusher High School, has been transported to the Juvenile Justice Center and will be booked accordingly."

School officials said they ordered students and staff to stay behind closed doors Tuesday morning "out of an abundance of caution."

Investigators say the threats were not specifically issued against the school.  They also said no particular students, faculty or staff were threatened or mentioned.

Nonetheless, because the suspect was a student at Lusher, they made the call to shelter in place.
