These Airlines Are Most Likely to Lose Your Luggage

People already don’t like air travel plenty, the only thing that could make a slog through security at the airport and several hours pinched into a middle seat worse would be if the airline also lost your luggage. If you don’t want that to happen to you, take note of the research done by Airfare Watchdog. The travel booking site did a deep dive into airline baggage loss and figured out which airlines are most likely to lose track of your checked bags.

The three most likely to misplace your stuff are smaller regional outfits—Envoy Air, which used to be American Eagle, lost or mishandled 6.76 bags per 1,000 passengers, Skywest, which covers the Midwest and West Coast, lost 6 bags per 1,000 and ExpressJet, which flies in and out of many small American cities lost 5.9 bags per 1,000.

The most likely of the big airlines to lose luggage: American. The biggest carrier in the US is also the most troubled when it comes to getting your stuff to your final destination. American lost or mishandled 4.3 bags per 1,000 passengers. That’s almost one for every flight from New York to Los Angeles.

The best airline when it comes to baggage handling was Delta, which also happens to be the most popular in the country. They only lost 1.55 per 1,000.

Or if you really want to play it safe you can always just stuff all your belongings in backpack.
