Cold weather

The Bayou State experienced a light freeze for some areas this morning.  Those winter temperatures are definitely back.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says this is normally our coldest part of the year.

"Nothing going on here with this cold is unexpected in any way, shape, or form, so this is just winter in Louisiana in late January," said Keim.

It's just a reminder for us that winter is not over yet.

"Some of the coldest air we've ever had has arrived here in February so we are certainly not out of the woods in terms of cold weather," Keim said.

We'll likely see temperatures staying in the 40s today.  It will get cold again tonight with temperatures around 29 north of the lake.  That means a light freeze yet again.

Temperatures on the Southshore will get down to around 38 degrees.

Protect the pets, plants and people.
