TPSO doubles reward for information on Independence double homicide

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs have issued a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest in a double homicide that took the life of a 42-year-old woman and a 13-year-old son in Independence Sunday night. Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the shooting was not  a chance encounter.

“The number of shots fired, the angle and what not, have led us to believe this is not a random act of violence,” said Edwards.

The shooting left Daytra Miller and Robert West Jr. were murdered in their home on Labruzza Lane.

Police are running down leads and have been in contact with West’s father, who does not reside at the residence. Edwards says the child's father has been questioned.

“The father of Robert West is around, and he is someone we spoke to on the night that this happened. He came in voluntarily, and he’s been cooperative with us.”

Edwards is asking anyone with information to come forward. Any information that leads to arrests may result in compensation from both the TPSO and CrimeStoppers.

“The phone keeps ringing, and we’re getting information updates. We’re continually working those leads, but we’re still asking anyone who believe they have information to call us with that because we want to check that out.”
