Forecasters do not expect Louisiana to get much from the disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico as it passes to the south.

"We will only have some minor impacts on Louisiana today," WWL TV Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum said.  "The worst of it will be along the coast with some heavy rain, gusty winds and coastal flooding."

He says elsewhere it will be a little wet with occasionally gusty winds.

"Inland areas will only have scattered showers, some wind and minor coastal flooding in Lake Pontchartrain."

The National Hurricane Center expects the system to become a named storm.

"The disturbance is expected to develop into a tropical or subtropical storm today, and slow strengthening is anticipated until the system moves inland,"  Hurricane Center Branch Chief Dr. Michael Brennan said.

He is watching the system move toward Panama City Beach, Florida.

"On the forecast track, the system will approach the northern Gulf Coast later today and tonight, and then move inland over portions of the southeastern United States on Saturday and Saturday night."

The weekend weather in New Orleans looks nice.

Nussbaum says, "We will become partly cloudy, breezy, humid and warm with highs in the lower 80s. Sunday will be partly cloudy, warm and humid with highs in the mid 80s."
