Suspect in deadly Esplanade Ave. hit-and-run seeks bond reduction

March 18, 2019 - 3:00 pm

The man accused of running over and killing to cyclists and injuring several others on Esplanade Ave. earlier this month is asking a judge to reduce his bond.

A judge ordered Tashonty Toney held on $510,000 bond for the March 2 incident that killed 31-year-old David Hynes and 27-year-old Sharee Walls.

According to The New Orleans Advocate, in asking to have bond reduced to no more than $135,000, Toney's lawyers contend that "there is no danger to any other person or the community posed by defendant's release."

The judge is set to consider the request on Thursday.
