A strong thunderstorm developed right over metro New Orleans early Saturday afternoon and dumped torrential rainfall on the city for a short time.

Radar estimated 4 inches of rainfall per hour with the storm, causing localized flooding, mostly in the CBD and French Quarter.

WWL-TV Meteorologist, Alexandra Cranford says the activity was a normal summer thunderstorm that happened top pop up

"Thankfully, the storms have shifted a little bit and most of the activity in the area should be ending by this evening."

But, she says we may not have seen the last of it this weekend.

"Tomorrow, we have another chance for some of these downpours, so we need to watch out for some scattered rain, for sure."

Though the Saturday showers should end by sunset, coastal showers and few storms may develop and move in late tonight and early Sunday morning.

"We'll see another 60 percent chance of showers on Sunday," says Cranford. "Some stronger storms could bring heavy rain and gusty winds that'll keep highs hovering around 90."

"Monday will see more afternoon showers and storms. And, more rain is expected Tuesday as a summer cold front approaches bringing numerous showers and thunderstorms across the region, but also some drier air. That front will likely stall across the area, keeping shower and thunderstorm chances strong through Wednesday."

By Thursday, Alexandra says we'll see more typical summer weather, with scattered showers and storms and highs around 90.
