SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) _ Severe thunderstorms brought large hail and high winds to northern Louisiana overnight.

National Weather Service Shreveport meteorologist in charge Mario Valverde says radar indicated Friday night that tornadoes had formed in the area.

He says the agency will have to review Saturday to confirm.

Valverde says there were reports of major damage in Coushatta in Red River Parish in the north-central region of the state.

The weather service also had reports of hail as large as baseballs in the area.

Valverde says the service has had no reports of fatalities.

Louisiana State Police officials say a suspected tornado touched down 8 miles north of Benton in Bossier Parish.

The Southwestern Electric Power Company reports more than 9,000 power outages Friday night in northwest Louisiana and northeastern Texas.

The worst of the storms are gone, but Channel 4 meteorologist Chris Franklin says some scattered showers will linger through the midday and early afternoon. Rain chances will diminish through the day.

"A cold front will move in through the day Saturday," says Franklin. "So many locations, especially north, will see temps fall through the midday and afternoon. Some areas could see temps rebound slightly before falling this evening."

Saturday night will be dry and much cooler with mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will drop well into the 40s North and away from the Lake. The metro area will probably drop to near 50.

Franklin says Sunday looks to be beautiful, with partly cloudy skies and a high near 68.

Expect a warmup for Monday before another weak cold front early Tuesday.
