Saints QB Drew Brees is returning to practice this week for the first time since doctors reattached the ligament in his throwing thumb.

Will he play Sunday when the Cardinals visit the Superdome?

WWL's Voice of the Saints, Zach Strief says if Brees feels he is fully recovered, you will see #9 under center.

"It's pretty straight forward," Brees's longtime teammate explained. "If Drew goes to practice this week and throws and has no pain and everything feels great, then Drew should and will play."

Strief says the idea of resting Brees one more week because Teddy Bridgewater can handle it does not make sense.

"There is just no such thing in the NFL as 'Oh, we'll just skip him for a game, we'll rest him for a game.' There's not enough of them. They are all so important."

Some people have suggested that Brees not rush back, but Strief says that's misguided.

"This isn't Major League Baseball or the NBA where there's 82 or 162 games in the season.  There are only 16 of them, and the are all really important."
