Organizers of the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival have given up their battle with Mother Nature for the day

We decided to cancel the festival for rest of the day today and we'll resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m." says Public relations director, Donald Lanier. "We'll go from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday."

Lanier says closure of I-55 southbound in Ponchatoula due to flooding did not play a role in the decision.

"No it didn't at all," say Lanier. "We were just watching the rest of the radar and the rain didn't look like it was going to stop. So, what with weather and safety issues, we decided to go ahead and shut it down. Now, we're working on getting water off the ground and things of that nature. We're working on that right now."
