A man wanted since 2013 on a second degree battery charge flagged down a passing car for help early Sunday morning in Raceland. Too bad for him it was a Lafourche Parish Sheriff's deputy.

The sheriff's office says Jansen Simon has been wanted since 2013, when, police say, Simon struck a man with a hammer during a bar fight in Cut Off.

"Upon identifying Simon as the suspect, deputies obtained a warrant for his arrest," the sheriff's office said. "He also had two outstanding warrants for Contempt of Court at that time."

Flash-forward to early yesterday morning: "Simon was walking along LA Highway 182 in Raceland when he flagged a deputy to stop. Simon told the deputy he was traveling with friends when they left him on the side of the roadway. After verifying Simon’s identity, he was taken into custody."

The sheriff's office booked Simon for aggravated second degree battery and contempt of court. He is being held without bond.
