Stocks mostly higher, oil prices on a six-day gain

Stocks held to a fairly narrow range today but finished mostly higher. The Dow Industrials gained 63 points, while the Nasdaq Composite rose just 2 points.

Oklahoma-based Devon Energy revealed plans to ditch its Canadian assets as well as its interest in the Barnett Shale in Texas by the end of this year thru either a sale or spinoff. Devon expects the makeover to allow it to become a “high-return U.S. oil growth business.” Devon shares jumped 7%.

Oil futures finished higher for a sixth-straight session as signs of falling OPEC supply outweighed pressure from a continued rise in U.S. production. March crude jumped 1.5% to settle at $56.92 a barrel.

Bidding to appeal to more consumers, Samsung today unveiled four new models of its flagship S10 phone. The base models of the core Galaxy S10 and S10+ will be priced at $900 and $1,000, respectively.
