Leaders in Jefferson Parish have postponed today's schedule news conference on a stinky odor reported in the Harahan - River Ridge area.

"Today's planned media conference to announce the administration's plans to resolve issues related to the parish landfill near Waggaman will be postponed until Monday so that state officials may address media questions," Parish Chief Operating Officer Keith Conley said in a news release.

She says authorities have found the cause of the stench.

"The parish administration has identified a source that is leading to reports of odors being reported in the Harahan and River Ridge area.  The administration has already begun addressing the issue by directing the landfill management company to immediately stop accepting all liquid industrial waste.  The administration is also in the process of enacting other immediate corrective actions that will be announced on Monday."

Conley says they will outline plans to rid the parish of the lingering smells.

The announcement will now be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Paul Connick Sr. Emergency Operations and Communications Center in Gretna.

"The parish hopes to have both Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Louisiana Department of Health officials present to answer media questions."
