The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office says two dead men were found less than half-a-mile apart in the span of about an hour this morning.

Around 7:00 a.m., a passerby reported a man in a ditch in the 500 block of West Second Street, said officials.

"EMS on the scene requested the coroner who pronounced the subject dead on the scene," according to a news release from the sheriff's office. "Upon initial investigation, officers found no visible evidence of trauma to the body."

An hour earlier, deputies responded to a call of a medical emergency in the 400 block of Fir Street.

"Upon arrival at the residence, deputies discovered a male subject unresponsive and not breathing on the floor of a bedroom," according to the sheriff's office statement.
"Officers and emergency services attempted to render medical aid to the subject, but he was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office."

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending in both cases.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said there is nothing to suggest that the two cases are related.
