***Flash Flood Watch Until 6 AM Friday***

The risk for severe weather in our area appears to be diminishing as a line of storms drifts farther north.

However, a cold front and its line of storms is slowing to a crawl from Washington Parish to Baton Rouge and just west of Morgan City.

WWL-TV meteorologist Chris Franklin says it's possible the front may move and travel much farther east until early Friday morning before daybreak.

"Models indicate those on the Northshore and in the River Parishes will see the greatest potential for a steady, heavy rain," says Franklin. "This is where the better opportunity for the training of storms is likely to occur.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 am Friday. The line of storms will weaken as it moves overnight and the rain could end by 7 or 8 am Friday morning, with mostly cloudy skies through the rest of the day.

However, the front will move back northward Saturday, bringing a 50 percent rain chance through the weekend.

Another disturbance will trigger more storms on New Year's Eve, with rain and falling temperatures for the first day of 2019! In fact, an Arctic air mass looks to move in for the first few days of the new year. The first dry day looks to be next Thursday.
