Slidell police arrested a man after his son was found wandering in traffic, after dark with no pants or shoes. Police say the father was dealing drugs in a nearby motel.

"Around 8:00 p.m. last night (Tuesday, November 27), Slidell Police responded to Days Inn (58512 Tyler Drive) after receiving reports of a 2-year-old child wandering in the roadway with no pants or shoes," according to a news release from Det. Daniel Seuzeneau, Slidell Police spokesman. "A good citizen took the child into the lobby of Days Inn, and the search began for the parent."

According to Seuzeneau, police searched the area for 45 minutes before locating the child's father, 42-year-old Nathaniel Burnette, passed out in one of the motel rooms.

"Officers asked Burnette if he was missing a child. He acknowledged that he was and that he had been sleeping and didn't realize the kid had gotten out," Seuzeneau told WWL First News. "More disturbing than that, is that officers found Mr. Burnette to be in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana to which he admitted to selling out of the hotel room."

Seuzeneau says it was obvious to the arresting officers that Burnette was under the influence when they arrested him. Burnette was not only booked on charges of child desertion and cruelty to a juvenile, but also possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, and other charges.
