The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office released new details today about the deadly shooting that happened when deputies were attempting to make an arrest in Metairie Wednesday night.

Around 6:30 p.m., the deputies were at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Cleary Ave. to make an arrest in a shooting that happened July 9 in the 3700 block of Rockford Heights Ave. in Metairie. The sheriff says the suspect was also a person of interest in the homicide that happened June 19 at Frank Lemon Gym on Causeway Blvd.

"Deputies located the decedent in an apartment at the location with Bobby Bruer and Dwayne Ard," the sheriff's office said today. "During the interaction, the decedent armed himself with a handgun, which led to the deputies firing at the decedent in defense of their own lives."

According to the sheriff's office, after the shooting investigators found two handguns, cocaine, and methamphetamine in the apartment.

"Bruer was arrested on narcotics charges, possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies, resisting a police officer with force or violence, and battery on a police officer," said the sheriff's office. "Ard was arrested on narcotics charges, illegal carrying of weapons, and resisting an officer."

The sheriff's office said the name of the man deputies shot and killed is being withheld, pending completion of an autopsy.
