Several arrested in Northshore heroin bust

Authorities report a big heroin bust on the Northshore today resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of narcotics.

The long investigation came to an end as St. Tammany Deputies and Louisiana State Troopers fanned out to issue dozens of warrants.

“These dealers are selling extremely dangerous illegal drugs in our community,” Captain Scott Lee said. “We are continuing our aggressive attack on drug dealers and sending a clear message that this type of criminal activity will not be tolerated.”

Authorities say the investigation showed that two companies were being used as fronts for the operation, including Russell towing in Slidell and Aariel Recovery, advertised as a substance abuse clinic.

The leaders would use these businesses to store and package large quantities of heroin and subsequently distribute the heroin throughout St. Tammany Parish, Orleans Parish and south Mississippi, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives and troopers say the leaders of the organization are Jason Hotard and Kasey Johnson, along with their girlfriends Dawn Herbert and Turquoise Gillum.
