Media at Southeastern Conference Media Days have chosen LSU to finish second in the Western Division behind Alabama.

LSU was picked to finish fifth last year, but the Tigers outperformed the low expectations. Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says LSU is once again thought of as the Crimson Tide’s biggest challenger in the West

“I wasn’t super surprised by the way it came out, but it definitely depicts people have a different feeling about LSU going into this year than they had last year,” said Moran.

The Tigers are set to report for preseason camp on August 1st. Moran says LSU landed eight players on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference teams, which is why LSU is picked to finish near the top of the division standings

“LSU returns with a starting quarterback in Joe Burrow who was third-team All-SEC.  They return a defense lead by guys like Grant Delpit who was first-team All-SEC, Rashard Lawrence who is first-team All-SEC, and Kristian Fulton who is second-team,” said Moran.

All offseason Coach Ed Orgeron has talked about an improved offense that will feature quick passes out of the shotgun formation but remaining physical in the running game. Moran says most people believe the hiring of Joe Brady passing game coordinator will pay dividends

“I think people were intrigued by this new offense and what they can do with a returning quarterback and a deep receiving core no that Joe Brady is in there helping Steve Ensminger design things,” said Moran.
