Scoot talks Confederate monuments on CNN HLN

May 17, 2017 - 4:52 pm

The debate over the fate of Confederate monuments is a hot topic in the New Orleans area and Louisiana as a whole, of course; but the controversy has piqued the interest of people all over the country.  CNN HLN (formerly Headline News) did a segment on their afternoon show, On the Story with Erica Hill; and Scoot joined Hill for a few minutes to provide a local perspective on what was happening and how people were responding.

In addition to bringing up how this was, by far, the most divided topic he's discussed on his own show, Scoot discussed some of the larger meanings of this debate.

“It's all about this bigger conversation of race relations in America.  It's not just about the monuments here.  It's about the Confederate flag in South Carolina; it's about the monuments elsewhere.”

Echoing the thoughts of many, Scoot went on to say that “a line has to be drawn somewhere” and that the real conversation should be where we draw that line.  Does it stop after the four originally targeted for removal, or does it keep going?
