Saturday storms to be followed by falling temperatures

January 19, 2019 - 9:24 am

The New Orleans metro area will see a variety of weather conditions Saturday.

"A tale of 2 seasons all in one day," says WWL-TV meteorologist Chris Franklin.

He says storms today have the potential of becoming strong to severe.

A strong line of showers and storms are moving from Baton Rouge and will continue east. The rain will bring cold air going into the afternoon.

A strong Arctic cold front will then push through the area, dropping temperatures rapidly this evening and tonight.

"Quickly dropping into the 50s then 40s with overnight lows in the 30s." Franklin says strong winds will make it feel more like the 20s by wake up time Sunday.

Sustained winds of 20-30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 40. A Wind Advisory is in effect from this afternoon to Sunday morning on the Southshore.

Winds will remain brisk with clearing skies and highs only in the 40s Sunday for the #NFCChampionship.

A colder morning Monday with a light freeze on the Northshore and areas away from the city. Metro area lows will fall into the mid 30s. Mid 50s Monday afternoon, upper 60s Tuesday, and low 70s Wednesday! That warming trend will abruptly end late Wednesday as another Arctic airmass heads south.

After the Saints game make sure you go outside on Sunday Night around 11:12 PM to see the total lunar eclipse. It will be a blood red color!
