Former New Orleans Saints cornerback Tracy Porter was arrested in Baton Rouge on domestic battery and drug charges.

According to Sgt. Don Coppola of Baton Rouge Police, Porter got into a fight with his girlfriend.

"A report was made by an individual that he has been in a relationship with on October fifth stating that Porter had grabbed her around the arms, around the neck and facial area," said Coppola. "There were bruises observed to go along with what she was reporting."

Coppola says police took Porter into custody last night and say Porter admitted getting physical, but said it was only to protect himself.

In addition to the charges of battery of a dating partner, police say they found drugs for which Porter did not have a prescription.

Drafted by the Saints in 2008, Porter is best remembered for two key interceptions in the 2009 post-season: picking off Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre in the NFC Championship Game, and two weeks later, intercepting Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning to seal the Saints Super Bowl XLIV victory.

Porter later played for Denver, Oakland, Washington, and Chicago.
