The Saints have signed a player.  No, not him yet; but defensive end George Johnson is coming back for 2018 according to ESPN NFL reporter Field Yates. Johnson didn't show up until the end of the season, but left an impression.

The 30 year old played 7 games in Tampa and 4 in Detroit before finishing his 2017 off with 3 games for the Saints in the regular season, as well as the two playoff contests. Johnson recorded 2.5 sacks and a pass defensed. He also managed to make a big play on special teams the postseason.  Yeah, that Vikings game NOBODY wants to re-watch.

Defensive end other than Cameron Jordan remains a question mark for the Saints. Alex Okafor is a free agent who is trying to come back from an Achilles injury. Trey Hendrickson was a member of last year's stellar rookie class. He played in 12 games, forced a fumble and had 2 sacks before getting hurt.  Another DE from the 2017 draft was Al-Quadin Muhammad. The 6'4, 250 pounder generated a little buzz last preseason by leading the team in sacks, but he was mostly inactive on gameday come the regular season. Rounding out that position group right now are Hau'oli Kikaka, Alex Jenkins, and Mitchell Loewen.

Free agency starts March 14 if the Saints choose to further address defensive end; the NFL draft opens on April 26th.
