Robbery suspect killed after shootout with police from Canal Street to Tulane Ave.

Police in New Orleans say a robbery suspect is dead after a shootout with cops

Officers attempted to arrest the suspect, when gunfire errupted.

Five bystanders waiting at a bus stop on Canal Street were injured, one critically wounded, in the crossfire.  A state trooper killed the suspect near Tulane and Elks Place.  

An NOPD officer was also injured, when his cruiser flipped over in Uptown while trying to respond to the scene in the CBD.

He was not seriously injured. 

Canal Street was completely blocked off  as police investigated near Elks Place and the 1400  block of Canal.  

RTA streetcar services was also temporarily suspended.
