Record heat today before cooler temperatures and storms move in for the weekend.

WWL-TV's Dave Nussbaum says, "There could be a stray shower or two especially north of the lake.  Some stronger storms are possible in southern Mississippi where there is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather today.  Some storms there could produce gusty winds and hail.  High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s. The record high is 88 set back in 1948 and we will at least tie that, if not break it. Find ways to stay cool.  Tonight will be mostly cloudy, warm and muggy with some patchy fog. Lows will be in the 70s."
