Cold rain, high winds and falling temperatures... that's what we are in for in the New Orleans area today.

"It looks like Old Man Winter is making an early arrival in New Orleans this fall," WWL-TV Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum said. "The cold front has moved through and now much colder air will move over us starting today."

He forecasts lingering light rain all day.

"Expect a cold, raw, wet and blustery day with scattered showers. High temperatures will hold steady all day in the mid 40s. Be sure to bundle up all day! Tonight will be cloudy and cold with scattered showers. Lows north will be in the upper 30s and we will be around 40 south."

Tomorrow, look for more of the same before it gets even colder for Thursday.

"The cold and wet weather continues on Wednesday with scattered showers and high temperatures only in the mid 40s. A light freeze is expected north of the lake on Wednesday night/Thursday morning with lows in the lower 30s. South of the lake we will be in the mid 30s with some frost possible if we can clear out the clouds. Protect plants, pets and people on both sides of the lake!"

Nussbaum says Thursday will stay cold, but the rain moves out.

"We will see the sunshine return. It will still be a chilly day with highs in the lower 50s. Another light freeze is likely north of the lake Thursday night/Friday morning with lows in the lower 30s. South will be in the mid 30s with frost. You will need to protect plants, pets and people again."

Friday, he says, will be a gorgeous day. Expect plenty of sun with highs around 60.

"Plenty of sun Saturday and Sunday with highs in the mid 60s. Expect chilly lows in the 30s/40s north and 40s south."
