Chris Roberts unexpected exit has cast a shadow over the long time councilman.  Details of an FBI investigation into Roberts finances seem to center on a pair of properties owned by Roberts on the Westbank.

FBI Agent Lisa Horner, who specializes in public corruption investigations, has asked Parish officials for nearly five years of documents regarding those two properties.  The investigation is also focusing on Roberts management of Dan's Landscaping in Terrytown.

According to emails obtained by the Advocate Horner is seeking "activity summaries, complaints, citations, notices, photographs, site visit observations and documentations, internal and external emails, attachments, correspondence, tracking logs and notes" over a four-and-a-half year period from 2013 to 2017.

Chick Foret, WWL-TV's Legal Analyst, observed, "The FBI looks like in recent months they have tried to establish a relationship between (Roberts) financial problems and his duties and responsibilities as a parish councilman."

Foret went on to comment on Roberts' personal activities as a potential starting place for the FBI investigation, "There's been a lot of talk recently in the last few days about perhaps some gambling activities, perhaps he's a problem gambler."

And a profile from the Advocate reports Roberts enjoys playing video gaming and is known to favor high limit slot and video poker.

Roberts has not been charged with any crime.  For now it's not known if Roberts resignation indicates he's cooperating with the FBI, targeted for criminal indictment, or on the verge of accepting a plea deal.

Meanwhile three people have been advanced to stand for selection to fill out Roberts' term on the council:  Marrero Businessman Larry Katz, former Councilman Keith Conley, and last minute nominee Lisa Jennings, with the West Bank Business and Industrial Association.
