According to the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute's poll,  more than any other state, residents in Louisiana say they oppose abortion, in any case.

The bayou state has some of the nation's strictest anti-abortion laws, which includes a law passed recently that would prohibit women from ending a pregnancy once a fetal heartbeat has been detected.

Robert Jones,  CEO of PRRI explains what the poll found.

"It is the state that has the largest proportion of residents who say abortion should be illegal in all cases," Jones said.  "Nationwide, we didn't find any states that was more than a quarter of that state, saying abortion should be illegal in all cases, but Louisiana was right at the top with 23 percent."

Jones says what is interesting about the poll in regards to Louisiana...
"This is less about Louisiana being Catholic and more about it being heavily Republican, so, Donald Trump for example, won the vote by 58 percent in Louisiana and I think what we see here is it's highly correlated with partisanship," Jones noted.

Nearly a quarter of the state's residents oppose abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

About 34 percent of Louisiana residents surveyed said abortion should be legal in most or all cases and more than half said it should be illegal in most cases
