The New Orleans cruise business isn't content to stay on cruise control. Literal big things are coming to the port.

The latest river cruise boat to call New Orleans home, the American Song, began it's inaugural voyage this weekend. We learned that Disney cruises will begin in 2020, and next month, the largest cruise ship ever to call New Orleans home, the Norwegian Breakaway, with it's 3,963-passenger capacity, arrives.

"We are anticipating setting a new cruise record in 2018," said Port of New Orleans spokesman Donnell Jackson. He said the current record of 1.15 million passengers was set last year.

"This new cruise passenger record that we anticipate setting this year would mark the fifth consecutive year of more than one million cruise passenger movements at the Port of New Orleans."

Jackson says they haven't even come close to maxing out, with additional capacity at their cruise terminals just waiting for new business -- like winter 2020, when Disney cruises make their maiden New Orleans voyages.
