The threat of nasty weather has officials putting off Sunday's planned event for owners and their animals at Lafrenier Park in Metairie.

"Due to heavy rain expected this weekend Pet Fest is postponed," according to a news release.

A new date is yet to be determined.

Pet Fest is a mega pet event that features an adopt-A-Thon with more than 40 shelter and rescue groups offering hundreds of adoptable pets.

The event also includes a pet costume contest, raffle, Pet Marketplace, food for humans and pets, and live entertainment.

Organizers encourage attendees to come dressed with their pets.

"Over 21,000 people attended Pet Fest 2017 and over 100 pets were adopted. All proceeds raised from Pet Fest go to Jefferson SPCA to support and assist the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter."
