Dell Demps with Anthony Davis

The New Orleans Pelicans have fired General Manager Dell Demps.

It comes a day after super star Anthony Davis walked out on the team in the middle of a game.

Davis appeared to suffer a minor injury during last night's game in the Smoothie King Center.

He was later seen leaving the arena with his agent.

"It doesn't surprise me.  Especially after the way AD walked out last night.  Clearly this shows you Demps will not be the one deciding on Anthony Davis compensation this summer," said the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert.

Demps was with the team seven seasons.

The Pelicans brass are going to be highly aggressive in finding a replacement for Demps as they look for a "true basketball guy."

Ownership was furious last night when Davis left in the middle of the third quarter after an apparent shoulder injury.

Davis has already made it clear he does not want to play of the Pelicans and requested a trade to a team he feels can give him the opportunity to win a championship.

Under Demps the Pelicans reached the playoffs just twice in seven seasons.

Head Coach Alvin Gentry will stay on with the team.

There is a feeling in the building that Gentry is coaching his butt off and the players are responding.  A real test for the team will come after the All Star break next week.

Ownership remains optimistic.  Team leadership from owner Gayle Benson down say they are taking control back and not letting outside influences and agents have control.
