Rex, King of Carnival

The King of Carnival has his own party on this Lundi Gras.

Rex arrives at Spanish plaza around 5:00pm, but the celebration begins at noon.

"Celebrate the season with local food and live music from New Orleans’ favorite performers, including Dj Rob Nice, Dash Rip Rock and Cowboy Mouth. This free event is open to the public and concludes with the arrival of Rex, King of Carnival, a ceremony featuring Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the King of Zulu, followed by an elaborate fireworks display," according to a news release form the Riverwalk.

The event runs from 12:00pm - 6:30pm.

Rex will issue his proclamation that includes calling on the mayor to allow him to rule for 24 hours and let "pleasure rule both day and night."

If the mayor concurs, the fireworks fly.

"After the fireworks, join Riverwalk’s Jazz Band for a second line from Spanish Plaza to Fulton Street to enjoy the Harrah’s Lundi Gras Block Party! They’ll have live music from Band Camp, food and beverages from Harrah’s, Manning’s, Grand Isle, Après, Ernst Cafe and Fulton Alley. Free and open to all ages!"
