The parents of an 11-year-old boy arrested in connection with 22 Gentilly Terrace car burglaries now have charges of their own.

Today, Donald Bryant and Donna Howard appeared in municipal court on a summons for improper supervision of a minor by a parent.

The charge is a misdemeanor. The district attorney's office will decide whether to prosecute the parents by their next hearing date, set for next month.

Bryant says they have struggled to control their son, but takes issue with the blame being put on him and the boy's mother. He said his son has been subjected to bad influences.

WWL-TV reports Prosecutors in court alleged the 11-year old was driving a stolen car earlier in the month.  They said the child got into an accident behind the wheel, then fled the scene and reportedly hid under a house to escape arrest.

Something father Donald Bryant vehemently denied, "He was not the driver of a vehicle. Did they catch anybody else that was in the vehicle, no."
