One week after killing spree arrest, family trying to raise money to bury victim

Manuel Caronia raised 13 children

A week after police brought a killing spree to an end in Metairie, the pain from the murders continues.

I talked with the family of one of the victims that 22-year-old Sean Barrette allegedly gunned down.

After allegedly killing a man in New Orleans East and then another in Metairie, police say Barrette riddled an SUV with bullets on West Metairie avenue.

That shooting left two men dead, including 45 year old Manuel Caronia.  His wife died in a car crash several years earlier.

He had a large family.

"My dad raised all 13 of us, including my mom's children.  We all grew up in the same household," his daughter Nyeisha explained.

Caronia was the birth father to seven of the kids, but she says he treated his wife's six previous children as his own too.

Nyeisha says her dad was a great man raising all those kids alone.  She fought through her emotions to talk about her father, with the SUV he was shot and killed in sitting in front of the home.

His son Joshua says he just wishes he could have had more time with his father before his life was tragically cut short.

He hopes other people don't take relationships with loved ones for granted.

"Just love people and spent as much time with them while they are here. Just appreciate them," Joshua urged. "They could be gone in the blink of an eye."

He says all 13 of them will lean on each other now that both of their parents are dead.

The youngest of the children is still in high school.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral and other expenses.

The posting reads, "No child should ever have to endure the pain of having to bury a parent. The pain of having to bury both is unimaginable."

It says any amount - no matter how small - will help.

"Manuel’s passing is tragic not only for his loss of life but also for the devastating effects on his family."

Barrette also allegedly randomly selected and killed three other people: Isai Cadalzo, Bruce Reed and Nicky Robeau.

In addition he is charged with three other shootings, two on I-10 where the victims escaped without injury.

Recap of all of the crimes JPSO says are linked to Barrette:
