New Orleans Police homicide detectives are investigating a triple shooting with one fatality in Algiers Tuesday afternoon. It happened near the intersection of Michael Street and General Meyer Ave.

Police say shortly after 2:oo p.m., officers were sent to investigate a call of a shooting in that location.

"The occupants of two vehicles exchanged gunfire while traveling westbound on General Meyer Avenue at Michael Street," said police in a statement. "The driver of a gray Acura pushed a wounded passenger out of the vehicle onto General Meyer Avenue when they reached the intersection with Flanders Street. At that point, another individual exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot southbound on Flanders Street.

Police say the Acura continued down General Meyer where it crashed into another car.

The passenger who was pushed from the car was taken to the hospital where he later died. The driver was also transported to the hospital. Police did not have word on his condition.

Police say the third victim, who fled the scene on foot, later arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot.
