NOPD investigates deadly hit & run on North Broad Street

New Orleans police are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred late Friday night. 

Shortly before midnight, Third District officers responded to a call of a hit and run vehicle crash with injury involving a pedestrian being struck at the intersection of North Broad and Republic streets. 

Officers arrived to find an unresponsive 62-year-old male victim lying in the right east bound lane on North Broad. The victim was suffering from apparent injuries sustained after he was struck. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Based on preliminary investigation, the male pedestrian was attempting to cross North Broad Street when he was struck by an unknown type vehicle driven by an unidentified driver who was traveling eastbound on North Broad Street. The vehicle fled the scene after the crash.
