The NOPD says the FBI has joined the investigation into ten people being shot on Canal Street early Sunday as a crowd of people enjoyed downtown after the Bayou Classic.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says it appears two groups of people from out of town had some kind of problem with each other, and they brought that with them, where it erupted into violence.

"We do believe that this incident stemmed from a feud between individuals that are not from the New Orleans metropolitan area," said Chief Ferguson. "This is a feud, ongoing feud, that we are working with our other partners throughout the state to determine who may be responsible for this."

The chief said they have recovered a weapon. Meanwhile, medical authorities say all ten victims are now in stable condition.

Dr. Emily Nichols, director of New Orleans Emergency Medical Services, said one patient needed emergency surgery, but appears to have pulled through.

"The individual did have a successful surgery and is healing well," she said. "The other nine victims also are stable at this time."
