New Orleans Police say a 16-year-old boy tried to rob a man of his car in New Orleans East, but was foiled by a steering wheel lock and a Cox Cable box.

"October 5, 2019 around 12 p.m. in the 6800 block of Curran Boulevard, the arrested subject, identified as a 16-year-old male, approached the victim, pointing what appeared to be a handgun at him. The arrested subject demanded the victim’s keys. The victim complied and tossed the keys to the arrested subject," said police.

"When the arrested subject entered the victim’s vehicle, he appeared to have difficulty driving the vehicle because of a steering wheel locking device installed," said police. "The arrested subject drove onto a Cox Cable box, exited the vehicle, and fled the scene on foot."

Police say officers caught up to the teen when he fell to the ground after jumping a fence. The suspect had a BB-gun resembling a Sig-Sauer semiautomatic pistol, according to cops.
