What does the loss of Zion Williamson mean for the Pelicans, their fans, and the NBA in New Orleans?

"This is certainly a short-term hit, but hopefully the excitement will grow even more," Tulane University Associate Provost for NCAA Compliance, Gabe Feldman.

Feldman says the team is well connected and that will pay off in the long run.
"The Pelicans. given the common ownership with the Saints, will be able to capitalize on that momentum," Feldman continues.  "So I think things are still looking very good for the state of sports in New Orleans and the state of Louisiana."

Although the team is without Zion for the next 6-to-8 weeks, the attention that is going to paid to the team by the media is already built in.

"I think that excitment will increase exponentially," Feldman says.  "And keep in mind that the team is going to be on national television broadcasts even before Zion gets back.  Short-term pressing, I think long-term the future's very bright for this franchise."

Despite last night's overtime loss, Feldman also says the Pelicans are a much different team both on and off the court than last year.
