Firefighter's union, NOFD, Mayor to meet soon

The running labor dispute between the New Orleans Fire Department and the firefighter’s union, ends a long tradition of fire trucks trailing Mardi Gras parades.

This comes as the New Orleans Fire Department faces a staffing shortage which led to firefighters boycott working voluntary overtime.

The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate reports, the fire trucks have been instructed by Chief Tim McConnell, to only conduct safety inspections on floats and flambeaux carriers before each parade, and then return to their firehouse.

Firefighter’s Union President Aaron Mischler confirmed the change in tradition to the paper today. The mayor’s office has not yet commented on the change.
