Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux will not play this season. The Saints are putting him back on injured reserve after suffering a setback last week working his way back from a fractured fibula he suffered during training camp.

According to a league source, the Saints felt like Breaux could have been ready to return to action in a couple of weeks, but the team couldn't find a way to manipulate the roster accordingly during his rehab process.  In other words, the Saints needed the roster spot that Breaux would occupy if they put him on the active roster.

Breaux missed six games last season with the same injury.  It's really unfortunate for Breaux, considering what he could have meant to this secondary coming out of training camp.  They're playing well in the back end so that's a positive, but at the same time, you have to wonder what the future holds for Breaux next season.

Coach Sean Payton explained the decision with little detail: "Right now he's going to remain on injured reserve."

Breaux also ended last season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
