No. 2 LSU facing a wounded Mississippi State squad

Wounded animals are dangerous when backed into a corner.  LSU has turned from the hunter to the hunted, after soundly beating Florida and vaulting to No. 2 in the polls.  Mississippi State is the wounded animal, and knocking off a top 2 ranked LSU team would make their season.

State has some in-fighting going on.  Some want head coach Joe Moorhead run out of town and some are willing to let the season play out.  The low for the Bulldogs came last week, when Tennessee beat the Bulldogs by double digits.  Mississippi State is dreadful on offense.  In three SEC games the Bulldogs average just over 11 points per game.  Meanwhile the State defense gave up 56 points to Auburn two weeks ago.  Let me be clear, Auburn’s offense is nowhere near LSU’s potent offensive attack.

Get the point?  LSU could hang 70 points on the Dogs.  70 points.  Don’t laugh, it’s entirely possible.  If you’re thinking that this is a perfect trap game after a big win over Florida and Auburn looming next week…you’re right.  It’s possible, but not probable.   This LSU team is on a mission, and I have no doubt Coach Ed Orgeron has his team grounded after the Florida win.   The Tigers would have to give up 4 turnovers to lose to the Bulldogs.

LSU offensive game plan:  Um, pretty easy to figure out.  Score a lot of points.  Go fast in the process.  And, slice up a very suspect State defense.  QB Joe Burrow could be out of the game by halftime with over 300 yards passing and a few touchdowns.

LSU defensive game plan:  Stop the run.  That’s the real threat MSU poses.   We could see Senior Tommy Stevens at QB, if freshman Garret Shrader struggles, which he probably will against an LSU defense that’s starting to find their way.

MSU offensive game plan:  Pray!

MSU defensive game plan:  Pray harder!
