New Orleans Police want the public to help them find a man who wielded a machete when he robbed a couple in the French Quarter early Friday morning. It happened around 2:25 a.m. in the 400 block of Dauphine Street.

"The victim and his girlfriend were approached by the wanted subject who allegedly demanded the victim’s wallet. At the time of the demand, the wanted subject was in possession of a machete style blade," according to an NOPD statement.

Police said the victim attempted to flee and the subject gave chase. The victim fell and attempted to fend off the robber, only to suffer deep cuts to his hand.

The victim gave up his wallet and the robber fled on foot to the 900 block of St. Louis Street, where he got into a black Lincoln SUV and fled the scene toward North Rampart.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Aaron Harrelson at the NOPD Eighth District at (504) 658-6080, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP). Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names to be eligible for a cash reward.
