For the second time this week, New Orleans police responded to shots fired in the French Quarter. Detectives believe it may have been drug-related.

"The NOPD is investigating a non-fatal shooting incident that occurred near the intersection of Governor Nicholls and Chartres streets," Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in an email.  "The incident was first reported to NOPD at about 6:51 a.m."

He says it took more than an hour for cops to determine if anyone was shot.

"(It) was not confirmed until just after 8:00 a.m."

Initial reports show a male victim sustained a gunshot wound the hip.

"The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment."

This comes just two days after a man was murdered near the corner of Bourbon and Iberville.

That victim was shot around 5:00am on Wednesday.
