New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell continues to spread her message that the city of New Orleans should get a greater share of tax dollars generated by tourism.

Although state officials from the governor on down have had a chilly reception to the idea, Mayor Cantrell says the revenue is generating surplus dollars that can help the city and still serve its intended purpose of funding tourist amenities.

"It's a surplus, one, that can be tapped to where you can do both," the mayor told WWL's Newell Normans. "You can reinvest in the convention center, you can even pay off debt associate right now to the convention center and then you can direct even more dollars."

Cantrell said if the city's infrastructure continues to crumble, it's going to be a lot harder for the tourism industry to market itself.
